Conversations Unplugged
with Garrett Salpeter
More than 500 clinics around the country are using the NeuFit Method, but founder Garrett Salpeter says the technology is about much more than electrical muscle stimulation. At its core, NeuFit is designed to work with the nervous system and address patterns that can remain long after an injury itself has healed. In this conversation with STEMREGEN Founder and Chief Science Officer Christian Drapeau, Garrett explains how injuries can teach the nervous system to protect the body and why recovery may sometimes require teaching it to let those protective patterns go.

When an injury occurs, the nervous system adapts by limiting movement and creating patterns of guarding and tension. That response can be useful while tissue is healing, but Garrett explains that those patterns may persist even after they are no longer necessary. NeuFit uses direct-current electrical stimulation while a person performs specific movements, creating a new input for the nervous system. The goal is not simply to stimulate a muscle, but to help the brain unlearn compensatory patterns and return toward more efficient movement.
Garrett’s team has also studied direct current in people with diabetic peripheral neuropathy. In a study of 150 participants, with an average age in the mid-70s, half received traditional alternating-current TENS treatment while the other half received direct-current stimulation with NeuFit’s Neubie device. Garrett says the direct-current group experienced improvements in areas including pain, sensation, activities of daily living, and EMG amplitude. He sees those findings as an example of why rehabilitation should consider both the neurological response to an injury and the underlying physical recovery of the body.
That is also where Garrett sees a natural connection with STEMREGEN. He describes recovery in terms of both “software and hardware”: the nervous system needs to relearn healthy patterns, while the body still needs the biological resources required for repair. Garrett says several clinics using the NeuFit Method have already incorporated STEMREGEN alongside their treatments and reported positive experiences. The conversation ends with an idea both Garrett and Christian are eager to explore further: studying the two approaches together to better understand what happens when nervous system re-education and support for the body’s regenerative processes are combined.
